The fast bowler Set to Play a Key Part in Iconic Rivalry

Test match action

The pace bowler has taken 309 wickets in 71 appearances with an average of 22.10.

The Australian chair of selectors George Bailey has stated that pace spearhead Cummins will be a central figure in this winter's England-Australia contest.

Rumors had circulated that Cummins might miss the series due to a ongoing back issue that had not yet healed.

Initial reports from the squad suggested no definitive call had been made regarding Cummins' participation, with the Test matches set to start on 21 November in the WACA.

He revealed that his recovery is on track and remained hopeful about the prospects of participating.

"We're aware that the clock is ticking and various factors around that, not only the back issue, but additional elements," he commented.

"We're encouraged. There's strong faith that he will feature a key capacity. With luck starting in Perth. Should that not happen, then we'll pick it up."

Past Concerns

He was sidelined the ODI and T20 games against India and New Zealand last month after examinations confirmed a lumbar bone stress.

Previous incidents include of spinal problems, with flare-ups in several earlier campaigns leading to absences from three Australian summers in a limited period.

The bowler mentioned he would be ""aggressive" and "take risks" in his comeback strategy to secure his spot for the contest.

The selector indicated that he did not know if he had started his bowling workouts as part of his rehabilitation but acknowledged it was "getting tight" for him to regain fitness for the opener.

Backup Options

In case of absence, former captain Steve Smith will assume leadership.

All-rounder Cameron Green was withdrawn recently from the national team for their one-day international series against the subcontinent side as a preventive step because of soreness in his side.

Bailey described it as a "small issue and stated that he'll feature in the state-level matches, so will be "well-prepared to deliver overs."

"We put so much time has gone into creating the schedule for him to be available for the first Test as an batting and bowling option," Bailey explained.

"He was only going to play the starting games regardless. How he handles the willow in shorter formats, should it hinder progress for 24 more hours, we just made the decision to adopt a safer strategy."
